API & Integrations

Use late night java directly from your preferred AI assistant.

What is late night java?

late night java is a curated directory of NYC bars and restaurants that serve coffee and tea — places that don't typically list them on the menu.

Most people don't know that many of the city's best restaurants and bars will happily make you a coffee or tea. You just have to know which ones. late night java is for people who want to enjoy a beautiful spot — the kind with real atmosphere, not a sterile new-age coffee shop filled with laptops — but may not be in the mood for a drink, or simply prefer coffee with every meal.

Why AI integrations?

We believe you shouldn't need to break out of your workflow to find a spot. Whether you're planning your evening in a conversation with Claude or asking ChatGPT for dinner ideas, late night java should be right there — no extra apps, no separate searches. Just ask, and get results from the same AI model you already use.

Claude (MCP)

late night java is available as a Model Context Protocol (MCP) connector for Claude. Once connected, Claude can search the directory on your behalf.

Setup

  1. In Claude, go to Settings → Integrations → Add custom MCP.
  2. Enter the URL: https://www.latenightjava.com/mcp/mcp
  3. Click Add. The latenightjava tool will appear in your integrations.
  4. Start a new conversation and ask about coffee spots in NYC.

Example prompts

  • “Find a cozy restaurant in the West Village where I can get a coffee”
  • “Surprise me with something in Brooklyn”
  • “Where can I watch basketball and get an espresso?”
  • “I need a date night spot with Italian food and good coffee”
  • “What neighborhoods does Late Night Java cover?”

ChatGPT (GPT Action)

late night java is also available as a custom GPT on ChatGPT. Search for “Late Night Java” in the GPT Store, or use the same example prompts above.

For developers

The OpenAPI spec is available at https://www.latenightjava.com/openapi.json

How it works

Both integrations connect to the same read-only search API. When you ask about spots, the AI sends your query to late night java's server, which returns matching results from the curated directory. The server:

  • Only reads from the public directory — no write operations
  • Does not store queries or personal data
  • Does not access conversation history or uploaded files
  • Returns at most 8 results per query with a recommended top pick

Troubleshooting

“Couldn't reach the MCP server”

Make sure the URL is exactly https://www.latenightjava.com/mcp/mcp. Start a new conversation after adding the connector.

Claude isn't using the tool

Mention “Late Night Java” in your message to help Claude recognize it should use the connector. Make sure the integration is toggled on for that conversation.

No results found

Try broader filters — drop the cuisine or vibe and just search by neighborhood. The directory currently covers spots across Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens.
